Endurance training refers to training programmes and forms of training that aim to increase endurance, i.e. the body's ability to perform over an extended period of time.
Endurance training contributes significantly to the development and maintenance of a good state of health. In particular, it has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system, as evidenced by a significant reduction in the risk of heart attack.
There is a difference in the form of exercise. Whereas in popular sports, endurance training is usually aimed at health-promoting fitness and weight reduction, in competitive sports the focus is on a continuous increase in endurance performance. The athlete wants to improve his or her best times in order to achieve better rankings in competition. Therefore, the endurance training is supplemented with intensive load stimuli.
